Certification Ceremony Concludes UFRJ Renewable Energy Course
Throughout 2024, students from the Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Engineering courses at UFRJ studied renewable energy modules according to our Planner program. Students were evaluated at the end of each semester, and the results far exceeded expectations.
All students greatly enjoyed participating in the Sustainable University Challenge. The Sustainable University Challenge is a team competition focused on developing a project to analyze the energy performance of buildings on the University Campus. Students were divided into two groups and worked on energy efficiency projects at the Technological Development Support Laboratory (LADETEC) and the Mechanical Engineering Department building at UFRJ. In November, they presented their results to stakeholders in a seminar.
Students also provided feedback on the course and suggested improvements. Their comments highlighted the use of the remote laboratory and participation in the Challenge. Below are some of the comments:
"The Renewable Energy course was very interesting and provided a broad overview of various sustainable energy sources, such as wind, solar, biomass and related technologies, such as hydrogen fuel cells. The way the content was presented, combining theory, quizzes and short videos, made the learning experience more dynamic and engaging. …Combining theory with practical activities was a great highlight, as it allowed for a more concrete and motivating learning process." (Pedro Monteiro Ripper)
"The experience awakened in me a great enthusiasm for renewable energy, especially photovoltaic energy, which I had the opportunity to explore in greater depth during the proposed activities." (Pedro Paulo de Oliveira Rocha)
