- Joint Diplomado Launched In Bolivia Between UPB And UMSS

On the 19th of August 2024, the Joint Diplomado in Renewable Energy Systems and Management (in Spanish "Diplomado en Tecnología y Gestion de Sistemas de Energías Renovables") was lauched jointly by Universidad Privada Boliviana (UPB) and Universidad Mayor de San Simón (UMSS) within the EUBBC-Digital Project. The event was held at the UPB Campus, with the presence of authorities, teachers and students from both universities, and was hosted by Omar Ormachea, PhD., Director of the Research Center in Optics and Energy (CIOE) of UPB.
During the event, the rector of UPB, Francisco J. Mayorga PhD., highlighted the importance of the cooperation between Universities, and thanked the Erasmus+ Programme for the support in the EUBBC-Digital Project. He also mentioned that this is a major milestone, as it is the first time that a Postgraduate Program is jointly developed and implemented between public and private universities in Bolivia.
Williams Gonzales PhD., Dean of the Graduate School in Engineering (EGI) of UPB, and coordinator of the DIplomado, shortly gave and overview of the Diplomado and the list of courses.
Evelyn Cardozo PhD., Responsible of the University Center for Energy Research (CUIE) of UMSS, and co-coordinator of the Diplomado, highlighted the joint effort to reach this milestone, thanked the Erasmus+ Programme and highlighted the use of Learnify and Remote Labs.

The Diplomado is a joint effort within the EUBBC-Digital Project, and includes the use of Learnify Modules, Remote Laboratories, and a Challenge/Case Study.
The Diplomado is structured in 12 subjects covering fundamentals in energy technology, storage, eolic and photovoltaic energy, biomass, hydroelectric centrals, sustainable mobility, optimization and planning of energy systems, energy efficiency and distributed generation, energy economics, finacial eveluation of renewable energy projects, and legal and regulations in renewable energy. At the end of the Diplomado, the learners will have a final challenge. The Diplomado will run for 5 months and 800 Estimated Learning Hours (ELH), including synchronous and asynchronous activities.
The Diplomado Program Faculty, includes instructors from both UPB and UMSS, and the Diplomado Program will deliver Double Certification from both institutions. The Coordinator of the Diplomado is Williams Gonzales PhD from UPB, and Evelyn Cardozo from UMSS.
