As of recent, we have started to work on the implementation of the two-stream model of learning resources in EEDA Academy. An integral part of stackable learning is its flexibility, which means that a learner should be able to choose a course whenever he or she wants to start learning. Whereas in class-education, learning is restrained by time constraints of teachers and fixed curricula, the two-stream model allows for learning at all stages while also offering teacher guidance to those who want it.
Two courses that were run in the MSc in Energy for Circular Economy at the OUSL (Open University of Sri Lanka) were Professional Ethics & Responsibility and Modern Leadership. They have been split in two courses each, making four in total; two "freemium" and two "premium". The difference between the two is assessment. Whereas the former is self-assessed, the latter is staff-assessed, meaning teachers are involved.
The two-stream model allows students a great level of flexibility and learning opportunitites, while also preventing teachers from being overburdened through self-assessment components.
